Metallica have their own festival

Guess I was wrong… When Metallica ‘teased’ us with a special announcement, it was not about the 3D movie like I had predicted. They’re actually doing their own festival.

It’s called Orion Music + More and it’s happening in Atlantic City, on 23 and 24 June.

The lineup is pretty shitty, but Metallica is headlining both nights, playing The Black Album in its entirety the first night, then Ride The Lightning the second night. Pretty cool if you like Metallica, but pretty boring if you want a full festival. The other bands are Arctic Monkeys, Avenged Sevenfold, Modest Mouse, and a bunch of other acts I’d never want to see live.

More info and details here and here.

Granted, this is their first one, so maybe the next one will be better. If there will be a next one. It’s just that, if someone asked me about a Metallica festival dream lineup, I’d list the rest of the Big Four, Exodus, Down, that kind of thing. Arctic Monkeys and Modest Mouse? What the fuck?

update: Sorry for screwing up the video, added a 20 minute one which includes the live conference they had on the site. The presenter has to get an award for best facial hair ‘hide your double chin’ illusion attempt. Personally, I’d recommend a diet and exercise plan, but doing a chinstrap over the double chin kinda works too, I guess.

There is a God

Hallelujah, famous crapcore guyliner endorsers’ Avenged Sevenfold have announced they’re not thinking about a next album yet.

First Disturbed announced they were breaking up and now Avenged Sevenfold announce they’re not thinking about doing another album at this time. I think this year is getting better and better by the minute. Don’t you?

If you are interested in what Avenged Sevenfold ARE doing, then why not browse over to Blabbermouth before collecting your terrible taste in music award?

Who likes live videos?

Everyone should like live videos right? I know it’s bit like comparing porn to real sex, or watching sports to playing sports (actually that last analogy doesn’t work at all), but you can’t always make it to your favorite gigs or festivals, can you?

So luckily, fans of bands like Opeth, Mastodon, Kreator, Amorphis, and many more, can check their live performances at today’s Graspop Metal Meeting festival in Belgium today over at Skynet.be.

The schedule is as follows:

Amorphis 14:00 – 14:45
Kreator 14:50 – 15:40
Moonsorrow 15:45 – 16:30
Mastodon 16:35 – 17:35
Legion of the Damned 17:40 – 18:30
Avenged Sevenfold 18:35 – 19:35
Opeth 19:40 – 20:40
Rob Zombie 20:45 – 22:00
Cavalera Conspiracy 22:05 – 23:05

Metalheadlines: Thursday edition

Well well well, another headlines post, this time even less interesting than the last one, so let’s get rollin’, shall we?

Zack Vengeance (sounds like a FPS game character) of Avenged Sevenfold (pictured above) was interviewed. If you think that’s bad, wait till you hear this: They also filmed it. So make the jump and watch the two part interview, if you’ve got nothing going on in your life.

Steelheart will release a new album in February. Who are Steelheart? I have no idea. I just wanted to include an obscure news post into this bitch.

Suicide Silence are pretty confident that they’ll outlast the Deathcore genre. At least that’s what they say in this interview. I’m pretty confident that not many people know who they are, anyway, so what’s there to ‘outlast’?

NAMM International will try to find the ‘World’s Fastest Drummer‘ at this year’s NAMM show in Nashville. I think the world’s fastest drummer also needs to have the world’s least sensitive eyes, because I just went to the official site of this contest and it’s just filled with high contrast images and bullshit animations that gave me retina hemorrhoids. Awful website.

Mountain guitarist Leslie West will probably not climb mountains anytime soon. That’s because he’s had a portion of his leg amputated due to diabetes. If you want to hear him talk about the experience, listen to his interview with Howard Stern after the jump.

All I know about Bush is that the lead singer is banging Gwen Stefani. That’s it. I don’t even know what genre their music falls into, but I’m pretty sure they have no place on a metal site. Which is exactly why I’ll report that they got a new song out. Why would we care? Cause it’s free, and if it’s one thing we love here at Dose Of Metal, is FREE STUFF. Sends us some, by the way.

Metal Hammer’s Golden God results

The UK’s Metal Hammer hosted their very “special” awards ceremony, The Golden Gods, last night. We at Dose of Metal at times have considered hosting our own awards ceremony, but ultimately we’re just not self-indulgent or pretentious enough to attempt such a feat. Actually, it’s just we’re too lazy, poor and not big enough to pull it off. Instead though, we can just look at other award ceremonies, and criticize them, which is exactly what I’m going to be doing.

Winners include Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Rob Zombie and many more. Find the complete results, plus my own little thoughts and criticism below.

* Best New Band – The Damned Things —- Meh, debut was catchy, but overall fairly mediocre.
* Metal As F*ck – Nergal (Behemoth) —- No argument here.
* Best Underground – Primordial —- Also no arguments here.
* Dimebag Darrell Shredder(s) – Gus G. (FIREWIND, OZZY OSBOURNE) —- Yeah, Gus is pretty awesome.
* Breakthrough Artist – Sabaton —- Who??
* Best UK Band – Iron Maiden —- Of course. Question though, do Iron Maiden win every year? 😛
* Best Live Band – Skindred —- Skindred? Fuck off.
* Inspiration Award – Twister Sister —- Twisted Sister? No thanks
* Best International Band – Avenged Sevenfold —- Fuck off.
* Best Album – “Absolute Dissent” by Killing Joke —- Haven’t heard it yet, so unsure on this one, but I bet there’s better.
* Event of the Year – “The Big 4” coming together for first time ever in the U.K. —- Yeah, as a UK citizen, this is awesome.
* Riff Lord(s) – Pepper Keenan and Kirk Windstein (DOWN) — Down are great, but there’s a lot of riff lords I guess.
* Spirit of Hammer – Diamond Head — Yeah, I guess I’m cool with this.
* Icons – Judas Priest —- Undeniably deserving of the title.
* Golden God – Rob Zombie —- Rob Zombie sucks.
