Germany, O Germany

Today is a German national holiday, the German unity day. As an American, listening to the German national anthem, you might think to yourself “FUCKING NAZIS,” but as a German I’m pretty proud right now.

No, I’m not. I honestly couldn’t care less. But I might aswell use this holiday as an excuse to post about German metal.

So, without further ado, make the jump to listen to some quality metal.

Happy Birthday Cliff!

Today would mark Cliff Burton’s 50th birthday, if it wasn’t for that terrible accident that happened 26 years ago. So today is a good opportunity to listen to some oldschool Metallica and hear what Cliff and the guys left behind for the world – killer music.

Happy Birthday Cliff Burton!

Periodic Table of Metal

Somebody shared the above image on my Facebook news feed today and I think it’s pretty cool. I can’t give you a source right now, but feel free to let me know where this picture came from and I’ll update this article with the source.

Either way, it’s a pretty sweet idea and nicely done. If you’re into metal and chemistry, this should give you wet dreams. Click the above image to see the full picture.

Vote for Dusty Peterson!

First off, this isn’t really a news post. It’s a post which is supposed to support our friend Dusty Peterson. You know, the guy who did badass artworks for Bloodbath, Six Feet Under and Behold! The Monolith.

On Reign In Art, Dusty’s artwork for above mentioned Behold! The Monolith’s latest album Defender, Redeemist is up for the Album Of The Week poll. It was leading the poll for a long time, until Aborted asked their fans via Facebook to vote for their artwork of Global Flatline.

Now, since Team Aborted got to work to put Global Flatline on #1, I want you guys to support our friend Dusty and Behold! The Monolith by voting for Defender, Redeemist here. Team Dusty FTW!

Juliet’s hardcore

While most of you have by now probably seen this video, I just had to post it. Simply because we used to have a somewhat regular video category where Alex would post kids playing instruments and/or singing, then rate their performance, pretty much dismissing them as talentless dipshits that they usually are. Rough? It’s Dose of Metal, not Mr. Rogers, bitches.

Well, today’s different, because the clip above is pretty awesome. I also love how they’ve introduced a few subtle touches like the crabcore moves (0:38), and those retarded arms and legs movements kids on Warped usually do when they “mosh” (0:42).

My rating:

Dose of protest

Again, keeping with today’s theme, I was thinking of other stuff I could post, and it led me to metal protest songs. I guess you could pick from a variety of themes (not like metal isn’t abundant in “fuck yous,” especially in the religious department) and bands, but I went with Sepultura.

For some maybe surprisingly, but to me this band always had a dose of subtlety to their political songs, mostly because they never went so far as to tell you what to do or think, or explicitly say which side to take, unlike, I don’t know, probably the most obvious choice, Rage Against The Machine (talking about the feeling I get when listening said bands, don’t take this as fact, dumbass).

Slave New World seemed fitting for today, so enjoy it, and don’t forget: FIGHT THE POWAH! BRING THA SYSTEM DOWN! ALWAYS QUESTION AUTHORITY!!1!!!!1

Back when they were still good: Mudvayne

I know people will argue Mudvayne were never really good, and the make up in the video above won’t help my cause, but I stand behind my point, which is: L.D. 50 was actually a pretty good album, and this band had potential.

Not saying that they had potential to be an overall amazing band, but they had potential to be a solid nu metal version of Tool. Too bad they instead chose to become a shitty nu metal version of Nickelback.

The video above is a live performance of “Prod,” and I believe it was the first video I ever saw by these guys.

Get up and join the colony, bitches!

Nothing to get the day started like a new Napalm Death song, right? Make some coffee, crank up the volume, and make plans for tonight.

My plans are awesome, they consist of choosing one of several websites “girls” that will keep me company for tonight, if you catch my drift.

Death metal dog moshes to Vital Remains

If you ever get bored of the same old metal videos, why not watch the video above of a dog moshing to some death metal? It goes fucking crazy.

The song is ‘Dechristianize’  by American death metallers, Vital Remains.
