Foo Fighters win the right to be featured on this website

Foo Fighters

Because they won a “metal” Grammy. A lot of people got super pissed off about this, because the category they won is called hard rock / metal.

To explain: Dear metalheads, hard rock / metal means hard rock OR metal. Not hard rock and metal.

Either way, blame the people at Grammy’s who lumped bands like Dream Theater, Mastodon, Megadeth with Sum 41 and Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl did rock out a Slayer shirt (as seen above) so that makes it completely okay, right?

The thing I only care about is finding out if Skrillex won the best singer Grammy <3

Ghost, Mastodon and Opeth tour is on

Ya heard? We don’t be lyin’. Satan represent!

Ghost, Mastodon and Opeth tour has been speculated, kinda confirmed and now completely confirmed by Mastodon themselves.

“…We go to Australia take part in the “Soundwave Festival“, which is going to be lovely… Take a short break. Do a North American tour with Opeth and Ghost. And then take another break and come back over here for the European festival season.” – Source

The interview I got this from can be seen here, and above you can check out a clip by Ghost to get a dose all sorts of awesomeness you can expect on the tour.

Kerrang count down heaviest albums ever. Metalheads laugh.

In the news this week (well, not really news, but certainly lulz worthy), the UK’s Kerrang magazine has counted down what they consider to be the 50 heaviest albums of all time. Now, I haven’t read the full list, but looking at the top 10, the list is pretty damn shit. To be honest though, I’m just surprised My Chemical Romance, Paramore and Green Day (and yes, I didn’t bold those names for a reason) didn’t make the cut (and thank God).

The Guardian (a British broadsheet for those that don’t know) have posted an article in regards to the top 10, and that’s where I have got my information from.

10. Machine Head – Burn My Eyes
9. The Beatles – The White album
8. Sleep – Jerusalem/Dopesmoker
7. Electric Wizard – Dopethrone
6. Discharge – Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing
5. Napalm Death – Scum
4. Mastodon – Leviathan
3. Slipknot – Iowa
2. Converge – Jane Doe
1. Slayer – Reign in Blood

So onto my thoughts…

Well, firstly, The Beatles is an obvious WHAT THE FUCK? You’re trying to be ‘abstract’ and ‘quirky’ with your definition of “heavy”, I get it, I really do. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think ‘heaviness’ is necessarily defined by who can play the fastest and loudest to the point of it being simply noise (a top 10 filled with underground Death Metal bands that play to 60 people a night would be boring), but this is just wrong.

Next… No Metallica? Actually, good.

No Black Sabbath? List has failed completely now. I need not say any more… But I will, because I like the sound of my own voice (or words… only words don’t make a sound).

But, kudos for the inclusion of Napalm Death‘s Scum.

Iowa? That was the heaviest album I had ever heard when it came out. However, I was only 14 then. I assume (nay, hope) that the editors of Kerrang are not 14.

Slayer number one with Reign in Blood? I don’t know if I’d put it at number one, but I guess I’d defend its position in the top 10.

Everything else: Erm no, not really. Perhaps DoM should post its own Top 10 heaviest albums of all time (not me though, I listen to Spice Girls in my spare time).

God hates Australia

I don’t really believe in God, but it’s okay if you do (even though you’re wrong and gullible!). But if there is a God (hypothetically speaking, Dave), he clearly hates Australia, how else would you explain the terrible tragedy that is about to happen to them in 2012?

“Soundwave Festival 2012” is taking place around late February, and here are some of the bands confirmed: System of a Down, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Marilyn Manson, Lostprophets, and Hole (lol wtf?). I know, right?

God also hates Aussie metalheads, because Machine Head, Mastodon and other decent bands are playing, so metalheads will have to swallow their pride and buy a ticket with Limp Bizkit‘s name on it, just to see those bands. Terrible.

Tickets go on sale October 20 at 9 AM, so you know when NOT to buy them. The official site is here: do not click this.

It’s really sick to see what’s happening to Australia, an otherwise cool and peaceful country. Sorry, guys.

Hear the new Mastodon album right here!

Mastodon, besides being one of those weird Japanese mech robots from Power Rangers, is also one of the best modern Metal bands to come out of the noughties. Well, at least that’s what all the Metal magazines have been telling me for the past 6 odd years. And Metal magazines are always right (just look at those 5/5 Limp Bizkit and Korn album reviews from 1999 for proof).

Here at Dose of Metal though, despite my digs above (which should be taken in jest), we can offer you, exclusively, a stream of the entire new album, The Hunter. And when I say “exclusively”, I mean we’ve just embedded the Youtube stream which the band themselves uploaded (and I in turn stole from Blabbermouth anyways). We’re still fucking awesome though!

Listen to the entire album above. It has pretty accompanying imagery. And if you’re thinking “wow this album kicks ass”, you can pre-order the album here. It comes out September 27 in North America.
