The Weekly Playlist: Better the devil you know

This week the UK has suffered some of the worst riots in recent history. Opportunist thuggery, or the lashing out of a group of people, excluded from society as a result of political and societal elitism. After all, it was Thatcher that taught us that society does not exist. Now is the time people turn to answers for why this happened, and it’s not something I can honestly condemn. Dismissing the last days as mindless violence is futile and will never get us to the root of the problem. Is it a lack of God in today’s Britain (fuck off), a breakdown of family unity, or the reaction to what is essentially a continuous swap between two parties that are nothing but different shades of shit, both of which support the same agenda?

I can’t pretend I have the answers, but what I do have is some honest reviews of some new music. So if you are sick of hearing about riots, sick of hearing from quasi-intelligent individuals discussing the alleged problems and answers to the world’s problems, why don’t we unite in listening to some kick ass Metal? And if that isn’t enough, we can also mock the shit out of some crappy ass music too.

Can we stop Stillwell?

It’s kinda hard for me, or anyone else in the world for that matter, to take a band that has Fieldy playing a guitar seriously in any way, so I might be feeding the troll here, but… Stillwell has a new video out for You Can’t Stop Me, lulz.

In case you don’t know, consider yourself lucky, because Stillwell is the band featuring Fieldy from Korn on guitars, Wuv from P.O.D. on drums, and two other guys who mistakenly think mixing rock with rap is the IT thing to be doing in 2011. Don’t confuse these guys with nu metal though, because they’re “street metal.” How do I know this? Because I’ve seen them live, and they had a song called Street Metal where they kept yelling “it’s street metal!” over and over again.

Now, while I’m busy going through the video trying to figure out if I can be seen in any of the shots and writing my suicide note, send your last messages and condolences to the rest of the Dose of Metal crew in the comment section.

Stillwell stillsuck

iKorn (who? What?) recently conducted an interview with Stillwell, and well, they kind of still suck. The band feature Fieldy of Korn fame and a bunch of Nu Metal has-beens that really shouldn’t have been offered another chance at making it in the music industry.

Their album apparently is already out (released May 10th), which means it successfully managed to come out without me even realizing. That’s great news for myself.

If you stillcare about Nu Metal (Why?) then have a read of blabbermouth.

Weak Recap: First Class

Hey, guess who’s back, it’s those regular superheroes of the Metal community, Mark and Guido. Once again, we’ll be recapping what we’ve been up to this past week (usually a combination of sleeping, eating and masturbation – we all lead interesting lives here at Dose of Metal).

So, basically it’s that time of the week when someone massages my ego, I then in turn massage their ego, then they massage my… You know what, doesn’t matter. Make the jump to see my awesome interview with the awesome Guido.

The other Korn members aren’t Stillwell fans

Fieldy gave an insightful interview about his relationship with former Korn guitarist Head and about the other members of Korn’s opinion on his side project. I use ‘insightful’ loosely, because who cares, right? But still, maybe you have weird tastes in music and actually give a damn, so here you go:

It seems I’ll get in touch with [Brian ‘Head’ Welch] about once a year or so. I’m probably about due to call him and say what’s up. But he’s out touring with his band. To tell you the truth, I don’t even know what happened with him leaving Korn. I know some goofy words were said back and forth, but I bet you nobody in Korn could even tell you for sure. I think it’d be cool if he came back and rocked with us. I’d be down. But there’s three other dudes in the band, so I don’t know.

Is he saying what I think he’s saying? Could Head eventually come back in Korn? Is Korn gonna mix Christian Metal with their delightful mix of rock, rap and whatever else they include in their amazing sound? Wow!!! Sounds AWESOME!

They actually watch us almost every night, but they don’t seem very animated about things, for some reason. They’re not coming up to me, like, “Dude, that is sooo dope!” But I’ll see Jonathan watching us from the side of the stage from time to time. I saw Munky  watching us from the soundboard the other night.

Can you really blame Jonathan and Munky for not going “That is sooo dope!” about Stillwell? No one can lie with such conviction.
