Video of the week: Megadeth

Hello me, meet the real me. And one of my favorite Megadeth songs.

Both me and the real me have a problem though. We don’t really get what this song is really about. Is it about war? Is it about mental illness? Is it about the TSA? The lyrics are so ambiguous that it’s hard to put a finger on what Dave Mustaine is really saying… Either that or I’m stupid. I’d say it’s about war, but you can really argue that it’s about something else entirely. I guess we’ll never know.

But the video is pretty unintentionally funny. Dave’s facial expressions and the way he interacts with himself seem straight out of a SNL skit. A bit too much comedy for such a serious message… Or maybe he’s pulling a reverse Kubrick by using a serious song over comical footage? You just never know with this guy…

What I do know is that Dimebag invented a drink after this song. If you didn’t know that, you obviously haven’t seen Pantera’s home videos. If so, leave this site and don’t come back until you do, metal traitor.

Saturday morning headlines!

Soundgarden have released tour dates for their upcoming North American tour. I grew up with Soundgarden so seeing them live is a no-brainer. However, my big complaint is Coheed and Cambria opening at the show i’m attending, while The Mars Volta, Mastodon and Queens Of The Stone Age will be at other shows of the tour. Lame. More information can be found here.

The trailer for The Big Four show at Yankee Stadium (pictured above) has been posted online and you can view it here. It was pretty cool, but the “Four of the heaviest bands of all time” slogan made me roll on the floor laughing my ass off  (what can I say, I’m more of an metal elitist than everyone at Metal Archives).

Melodic death metal act Arch Enemy have uploaded a new song titled ‘Blood Stained Cross’, which is from their upcoming new album Khaos Legions. You can listen to the song here. Oops. Sorry, I meant here.

Mötley Crüe bassiest Nikki Sixx recently told about.com “I think our best record is still in us.” — I like Nikki, I really do. I think he’s a pretty cool guy. But after reading that, I have a feeling he is back on the heroin for that interview and thinking it’s 1983.

Friday Top 10: Shitty sellout songs

This week’s Friday Top 10 is all about those ridiculous ‘sell out’ songs. You know the ones; you have a band that YOU love, it’s YOUR band, and then all of a sudden, they release some bullshit single and every fucker suddenly likes them. Or sometimes bands just like to “broaden their horizons” and “explore new territories” – Read dumb their shit down for the masses or follow the current trend.

Now, I’m not looking to get into a debate about the definition of “sell out” or discuss the pros and cons of bands taking different paths, this is just a bit of fun. So make the jump, and have a laugh at some of these ridiculous songs. Or don’t, I still don’t get paid at the end of the week regardless.

17 years ago seems so far away

17 years ago, Pantera’s Far Beyond Driven went to #1 on the US Billboard 200 charts. Currently on #1 on said charts is Adele and I have absolutely no idea who that is but I think it’s safe to say, they (or she?) aren’t metal (it’s worth noticing that the Foo Fighters are on #2 and I absolutely view that as a great thing).

17 years ago, even Kurt Cobain was blown away by the sheer amount of quality metal albums that were released that year. In the year of 1994, many great (and now legendary) albums were released. Make the jump to see the highlights of 1994.

New American Big Four date

The rumors were confirmed. The Big Four are coming to the East Coast, yo. And not just any venue, but the Yankee Stadium in NYC.

Enter New York . . . that’s right, The Big Four of Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer, and ‘Tallica will be in the new version of the famed Yankee Stadium on September 14, 2011! We can’t wait for a night in the Bronx as our second American show and for those of you who love fun facts, this will also be the second live music event hosted at the new ballpark.

ALL seats are reserved for this show and tickets go on sale Friday, May 6 at 10:00 AM via TicketMaster. MetClub members should log in for more information about a special pre-sale starting on Wednesday, May 4. Yankees season ticket holders will have their own pre-sale, also on May 4, starting at noon.

<insert stereotypical big four joke here>

Don’t really have anything humorous to say, really. Like I said before, if you can make it, go!

Poster after the jump.
