17 years ago seems so far away

17 years ago, Pantera’s Far Beyond Driven went to #1 on the US Billboard 200 charts. Currently on #1 on said charts is Adele and I have absolutely no idea who that is but I think it’s safe to say, they (or she?) aren’t metal (it’s worth noticing that the Foo Fighters are on #2 and I absolutely view that as a great thing).

17 years ago, even Kurt Cobain was blown away by the sheer amount of quality metal albums that were released that year. In the year of 1994, many great (and now legendary) albums were released. Make the jump to see the highlights of 1994.

Cannibal Corpse – The Bleeding

Cannibal Corpse released their last album with Chris Barnes on vocals. The Bleeding produced many now classic Death Metal tunes, including ‘Stripped, Raped And Strangled,’ ‘Fucked With A Knife’ and ‘Pulverized.’

Acid Bath – When The Kite String Pops

Acid Bath released their debut album When The Kite String Pops. The album artwork was done by famous serial killer John Wayne Gacy. Never once before has a clown, Pogo, been that intimidating. Now we have the Insane Clown Posse.

Machine Head – Burn My Eyes

Machine Head released their debut album Burn My Eyes, one of the most important releases of the Groove Metal genre.

Megadeth – Youthanasia

Megadeth released their 6th studio album Youthanasia. 13 years later, Megadeth re-recorded the most famous song of this album, ‘A Tout Le Monde,’ with Lacuna Coil’s Cristina Scabbia, who’s more known for being hot than for her voice.

Marilyn Manson – Portrait Of An American Family

Marilyn Manson released their debut album Portrait Of An American Family. Yes, I do think this is worth noticing because, back in 1994, Marilyn Manson was still a nobody who recorded a quality album. Nowadays, Marilyn Manson is extremely well-known who records shitty albums every once in a while.

Other notable artists that released albums in 1994 were At The Gates (Terminal Spirit Disease), Bolt Thrower (For Victory), Danzig (4p), Edge Of Sanity (Purgatory Afterglow), Entombed (Wolverine Blues), Hypocrisy (The Fourth Dimension), In Flames (Lunar Strain), Obituary (World Demise), Overkill (W.F.O.), Prong (Cleansing) and Slayer (Divine Intervention).
