Pheew! Corey still doesn’t want to do a new album

Did we dodge a bullet, or what? Corey Taylor apparently isn’t ready for a new Slipknot album. Thank God for that, I don’t think my ears could take another one. Could yours?

I feel better about it, but I’m still kind of on the fence. We’re taking baby steps and we’re going to take our time.

Of course, that means he’s just ‘taking his time’ in the press and that he will, eventually, record a new album. Knowing this industry and the lack of money around it, every band is reuniting and releasing shit.

So our luck will run out and a new CD will be out. Mark my words, folks.

Metalheadlines: Boring edition

I’m not gonna lie to you, all the news in this post is boring as hell and probably won’t interest you. But hey, it is what it is, so let’s get rollin’:

New Ozzy guitarist Gus G. (pictured above) has an upcoming tutorial video for Guitarist Magazine. You can find a sample video right here. Don’t hold your breath.

Evile‘s new album is called Five Serpent’s Teeth and it will be released on September 26. If you’re like me, you probably don’t care about its artwork. But if you’re not like me, you can check it out here. It’s not bad.

I didn’t watch the 2009 Tony Awards, but I wish I did. Because this happened. And Bret Michaels is now suing them. The lawsuit itself has been moved to New York. Isn’t that where Metalsucks is located? They should go there and make fun of Bret in person.

Corey Taylor (of Slipknot and Stone Sour fame) wrote a book. He will read from that book online via a webchat. This chat happens Monday, July 11 ad 5 pm EST. If you happen to be online around that time, simply avoid this site.

Supergroup Chickenfoot signed a distribution deal with eOne Music. If you ever wanted to hear what a post-David Lee Roth Van Halen would sound like with Satriani on guitar and RHCP’s Chad Smith on drums, wait for their new album which is due in September.

Corey Taylor: “Don’t follow your dreams”

Corey Taylor is evidently as good a motivational speaker, as he is a Metal artist.

For some bizarre reason, the Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman recently spoke at England’s Oxford University. Why? I have no fucking idea (and if you’re wondering what his speech sounded like, it probably had plenty of those ‘f bombs’).

What was Corey’s message to the highly educated crowd of students? Don’t follow your dreams. Wow, thanks for the amazing incite Corey! I think I’ll just stick to masturbating to mediocre internet porn, drinking beer and getting the odd bit of sleep. I mean, may as well stick to what I’m good at right? Who needs dreams any way? Dreams are for pussies.

Blabbermouth also have a video interview that I’m way to lazy to embed. So head over there if you care (and I sincerely hope you don’t).

Friday Top 10: Shitty sellout songs

This week’s Friday Top 10 is all about those ridiculous ‘sell out’ songs. You know the ones; you have a band that YOU love, it’s YOUR band, and then all of a sudden, they release some bullshit single and every fucker suddenly likes them. Or sometimes bands just like to “broaden their horizons” and “explore new territories” – Read dumb their shit down for the masses or follow the current trend.

Now, I’m not looking to get into a debate about the definition of “sell out” or discuss the pros and cons of bands taking different paths, this is just a bit of fun. So make the jump, and have a laugh at some of these ridiculous songs. Or don’t, I still don’t get paid at the end of the week regardless.

Velvet Whateverolver

/

Something new in the land of “Who gives a flying fuck” — Slash has commented on Velvet Revolver’s auditioning process and working with Corey Taylor. According to / (man, I’m full of shit puns today), it “didn’t seem to fit right” with him. Aaaw, poor Corey must be heartbroken.

You can read an excerpt from the interview he gave to someone after the jump, if you really feel like it. Or you can just read our Brad Delson facts collection, because they’re funny and they tell the tale of a real guitar god.
