Evanescence will smack you in the face

In a recent interview with MTV, Evanescence frontwoman claims the band’s latest effort, will be the ‘heaviest record they’ve ever done’ (which they totally didn’t say about the last record at all) and “will smack you in the face”.

Funnily enough, if anyone ever played me Evanescence I’d probably smack them in the face, although I must make it clear I do not condone violence at all. Unless, Evanescence‘s music is involved of course.

In seriousness though, putting aside my snide comments, I really must thank Evanescene. Their last album, 2006’s The Open Door, provided me with the perfect Christmas gift for someone stupid that I hate.

Moving on, fans of Evanescence should check out We Are The Fallen instead. They’re also shit, but I just find it hilarious that they contain more original members of Evanescence and sound more like Evanescence, than erm, well Evanescence.

Headlines! Headlines! Headlines!

Time for some headlines, baby! Let’s get it on…

Children of Bodom announced a month-long North American headlining tour in June. Main support? The Devin Townsend (pictured above) Project. Also supporting are Obscura and Septicflesh. Sounds like a nice lineup to me. Dates have yet to be announced.

All-girl metal (I use the word “metal” very loosely in this context) band (I use the word “band” very loosely in this context) Kittie are going into the studio, to record the follow-up to ‘In The Black,’ next week. Yay, I guess. Yay for those who enjoy Pussy’s Kittie’s music. Yay for all two of you.

Seether frontman Shaun Morgan claimed that former Seether guitarist has gone back to his former band Evanescence. Eh, what’s a Seether? Anywho, shortly after Morgan claimed that, Evanescence’s management declined it. But honestly, who the fuck cares?

When asked about why Slayer chose Gary Holt as a replacement for Jeff Hanneman, Dave Lombardo had the following to say:

“Me and Kerry were on the side of the stage at Hellfest, in France. Both me and Kerry, were “Come on, let’s go listen to Exodus. Let’s hear Exodus. We haven’t seen them in a while.” We saw Exodus and I was like, “Wow. Now I remember why I liked them so much, when I was young.” […] “Look at that guy. That guy’s an amazing guitar player. He’s a good player.” And so, when this happened, the first person that came to Kerry’s mind, and myself, [was] Gary. I mean he was there, from the beginning. He knows that style.”

Dave Murray, of Iron Maiden, was recently asked if there is going to be a follow-up to ‘The Final Frontier.’ Rumors that this was going to be Maiden’s last album surfaced ever since the band reveiled the title of the album. Murray had this to say about the situation:

“Possibly there will be, but it’s hard to say at the moment. It definitely won’t be next year, anyway. My gut feeling is once we sit down, if everyone’s up for it — that’s the main thing — then we’ll go for it.”

Feel updated now? You are ready to go out and be metal now, my friend.

Weak Recap: The Big Fourth

Jagshemash!

Welcome to yet another Weak Recap. Last week, Mark did me, so this week I’ll be returning the favor. We’re also taking turns interviewing each other. As usual, we’re looking back at the week’s most important headlines. Why? Because repetition is the mother of all learning. And it’s also a pretty easy way to make another post without being original at all.

Make the jump to get reminded of how awesome we were throughout the week.

Evanescence still exist

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but according to Blabbermouth, not only do Evanescence still exist, but they’re also working on a new album. The band will be entering the studio next week to begin work on the follow up to 2006’s The Open Door.

Of course though, the band contain none of the original members other than frontwoman Amy Lee. Really, they’re like the Gothic Nu Metal version of Guns N’ Roses, just without the cool music. Or attractive singer.

Allegedly the band are going into a more Dance/New Wave/Electronic territory for this release, so expect it to be even worse than their last album, which was of the clichéd “we’re going heavy” approach.

Evanescence drummer is modest

And by modest, I mean not at all. Evanescence drummer, Will Hunt, was recently interviewed and asked of his opinion on the band’s new material. Apparently, surprise surprise, he thinks it’s great. An excerpt of what he says can be found below.

“Honestly, I think it’s amazing. I think she’s taken some real big risks. As artists, I think it’s important that we challenge ourselves to find new ground. If you look at any band in history who’s done really well, they continue to reinvent themselves and be relevant. It’s always going to sound like Evanescence, ’cause it’s Amy Lee singing, but the vehicle for that voice can be different and still be Evanescence. I think people are gonna be pleasantly surprised, because all the really cool elements, the things people love about the Evanescence of the past are still there. But there are new colors in the pattern. There’s a lot of cool new things going on, both electronically and futuristically. I think she’s doing something that’s very special and hasn’t been done before. I’m a supporter, I think it’s killer. It’s really good.”

He’s probably lying though, because “great” and “Evanescence” together are a complete paradox. Besides, apart from being Black Label Society’s drummer, who is anyways? He must be like the 34th drummer for Evanescence.

More over at Blabbermouth.
