Gene Hoglan speaks

Gene Hoglan

It comes to us as a shocking revelation that Gene Hoglan, one of best heavy (metal) drummers out there, can not only speak (we thought the evolution upgraded his arms and legs and didn’t bother with the rest), but he also found the time to do so. We can’t figure out how he pulled the latter of, because he seems to be playing with some band at any given moment of his life.

In his message posted on MySpace, he speaks on various things, his ongoing touring cycle with Fear Factory, hanging out with Metallica, meeting James Hetfield, and of course… food. Read it here.

He also made the cover of Modern Drummer magazine, which you can see after the jump.

The Damned Things. Ironic.

The Damned Things

The Damned Things have named their new album! Wanna know the name? Good luck you’re reading our site then. It’s Ironiclast. Personally, I think Ironic would have sufficed in many ways, but who are we to point fingers and laugh? Don’t answer that.

And in case you want to see how Anthrax, Every Time I Die and Fall Out Boy mash up sounds live, check out the rest of this fine article.

Dimmu Borgir who? Korn aren't sure.

Dimmu Borgir may not be a REAL Metal band, but they’re still a REAL band. Well, by real, I mean not make-believe, not that they’re actually any good. Still, you’d think touring with them, Korn would know who they are… Erm well apparently not, as can be seen in the interview with Fieldy after the jump (skip to 6 minutes).

“What do you think about Dimmu ‘Borgir’ and their music?”

“Of who?”

“Dimmu Borgir – the band you’re touring with”

“Oh… I don’t really know…”

Atreyu are livin’ on the edge

Atreyu have a released a new song, a cover of Aerosmith’s 1993 smash hit “Livin’ On The Edge“.   It will also be featured on their upcoming EP, an EP full of cover songs.

If you want to hear it, you have to first “like” Atreyu on Facebook.  Is it actually worth it to “like” Atreyu, just to hear this song?  Embarrassing if you ask me.

Click here if you’re actually interested in wasting your time with this song and having close friends/family laugh at your taste in music.

Flyleaf aren't Metal?

To be honest, I have taste, so I never bothered to check out Flyleaf (mostly because their name sucks), but apparently they aren’t Metal at all. How do I know? Because I just found out that not only are they fronted by a woman! (why isn’t she in the kitchen!?), but they’re also a Christian band! Jesus Christ! God almighty Science! what is wrong with Metal today?

Frontwoman Lacey Sturm also moans that no radio stations want to play female-fronted Metal/Rock bands. Wow, that’s funny, because I could have sworn I’ve heard Evanescence, Nightwish, Within Temptation and all those other female-fronted bands that sound exactly the same, on the radio. In fact, I was so sure that female-fronted gothic rock bands were all the rage! Damn, I guess I was wrong, because obviously it’s really tough for Lacey and Flyleaf… Selling all those albums, playing festivals across the world… being interviewed… I must have dreamt those things happened. Of course, if Flyleaf really do struggle to get played on the radio, I’m sure it is because they’re fronted by a woman, and has nothing to do with their bland and boring music…
