Axl has a sense of humor

Our friend Bumblefoot recently revealed in an interview that Axl is a funnyman.

He’s got a great sense of humor. A real ball-buster. Sometimes he’ll tell jokes into our in-ear monitors while we’re tryin’ to take a solo, he’s fucked me up a few times, haha…

Read full interview here.

It doesn’t surprise me… One look at the classic ‘November Rain’ video and you can totally see Axl’s humorous side, right? That video isn’t serious, is it?

Here’s what I wrote about it in an older article:

So the video is basically about Axl’s wedding to some bimbo. They talk in a bar, whatever, then on the day of the wedding, Slash is the best man (irony ftmfw). He forgot the ring though, shit… Oh wait, some other dude has it on his pinky. Day saved.

Axl gets married, Slash walks out in a rage. As he walks out, his guitar magically appears as he exists the church and the solo starts. Helicopter shot. Then (november) rain hits the wedding, everyone hides, blah blah.

Axl’s wife is dead. Wait, what? Axl wakes up from a dream. Was it all a dream? No wait, he’s still at the funeral. This doesn’t make any fucking sense, whatsofuckingever.

Duff wants a job

It’s been established that Duff isn’t loaded. So it’s no surprise that he wants a job.

I’d love to play with Prince. I played on the Iggy Pop record, and he’s my guy… I played with Steve Jones; he’s my guitar hero. Prince is the guy, probably the biggest musical influence all around for me, and I got to meet him one time, but I was so fucking tongue-tied that I didn’t know what to say… But to be able to play on a song or something like that; that would be pretty badass, just on a personal level.

Read full interview here.

Aww, little Duff got starstruck when meeting Prince. Bless him. Maybe Prince is reading this website and will hire you. After his guitar getting the top spot in our article, I can’t see why he wouldn’t be our fan.

Fingers crossed, yo.

Dose of Metal’s dose of metal

Heavy Metal

Aren’t we just awesome? While Guido was busy listening to new bands, I was busy copy/pasting posting freshly released music links. So what’s new?

VYGR have posted a new song to their Facebook page (note the URL), and it’s from their new cleverly named album Voyager. Why name the band in such a way that you’d need to name the album properly just so people would get it is beyond me.

Blindside, the band I once saw opening for Mudvayne (in 2003, you know, before this) and of which I have absolutely no memory of, also have something new. Go here if you’re interested in it.

Another band has something new. But this time, a whole album available for streaming. Above Symmetry‘s the name, above crap is the game. Hopefully, but I wouldn’t know anything about it because I’m too busy listening to Mudvayne right now.

Just kidding. You too.

Deranged have been pretty busy as well, and have come up with something for you to kill a few minutes of your time with. Click here.

Anvil have also been working hard. Unfortunately, it’s not a new documentary, but they have a new song. FukenEh!

That’s it…

NOT! Surprise round of new music videos after the jump.

Spotlight: Dibbukim, Auternus, The Heathen Collective

If your audience is as big as the one above, then you really don’t need any more exposure but some bands do need exposure and some of them are extremely talented and even deserve that exposure. I’ve used the word “exposure” pretty often already, huh? Overexposure? Ha, I’m so funny.

So we’re here to give exposure (ha) to talented bands (and some not so talented) because we, at Dose of Metal, just like to support the underground. As cheesy as it may sound, it’s extremely important to keep supporting new metal bands because in 50 years, right after AC/DC retired, we may not have a new AC/DC. So, go to shows of up and coming bands and support them by buying their music and merchandise. It’s only fair.

To get back to my point, we try to do our bit by reviewing albums of “overlooked” bands. Some of those contacted us via our form, some have been submitted by other people. Make the jump to do your bit, by reading and then listening to those bands.

Metallica aren’t selfish

If you thought Metallica are selfish, think again! They aren’t, that’s why they chose ‘Am I Evil’ as the one song to perform together on stage with the other three bands… They’ve performed together again at the Indio gig.

We felt that you’re not going to invite people to come onstage and start playing a Metallica song. That would seem a little selfish, so you want to find a cover song that had some resonance towards what’s going on said Lars Ulrich in an interview.

My personal opinion is that they chose this song as one band already knew it, and it was very easy to learn and practice by the rest. The performance in Sofia last year (which I’ve been to, cause I’m amazing) was really just a DVD moment, I don’t think they thought too much of it in advance… I think they just decided to do something quick for all the cameras, so that was an easy choice. But that’s just me.

I would like to be a little more adventurous and not rely on the same song if there are continued jams. There are other things we can do, and I know that Tom [Araya] from Slayer was talking about [Metallica’s] “The Four Horsemen.” Inviting the other bands to come up and play a Metallica song just doesn’t seem right continued Lars…

Yeah, I’ll say. I don’t think they should perform a Metallica song, but they should do a medley of all four bands’ greatest hits. I’ve suggested this to David Ellefson when I interviewed him, and he seemed keen on the idea. Wouldn’t that be something special that would honor all four bands equally?

You know, I’m not afraid to go anywhere. Maybe we’ll play a Slayer song instead

Read full interview here.

Or maybe you’ll just take my advice and do a medley. Dave could join you guys beforehand just for one or two performances of old Kill Em All songs you wrote together.

I should be fucking hired by these guys, so much productivity in a single blog post. And if you are considering seeing the upcoming Big Four gigs in Europe, read this rant to get motivated.
