Slash doesn’t understand Guns N’ Roses “hysteria”

Heineken Music recently conducted an interview with guitarist Slash, in which the “legendary” artist admits he doesn’t understand the “hysteria” and legacy that surrounds Guns N’ Roses.

Personally, I do understand the legacy, but I also kind of agree with him. Besides Appetite for Destruction, I really couldn’t give much of a crap about any of their albums… Flame me, it makes me feel horny.

You can find more on Slash and the interview over at Blabbermouth.

DJ Ashba will help Axl

“Help Axl with what exactly?”, I hear you cry. Help him by reading a bedtime story at night? Help him plait his hair?

Nope, according to a recent interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, DJ Ashba is ready to help Axl with the next Guns N’ Roses album. Well, you are the guitarist right Ashba? I mean, that is your job right? Unless what you’re saying is the current iteration of Guns N’ Roses is actually an Axl Rose solo project masked as Guns N’ Roses, but that couldn’t be right, could it?

Either way, be prepared to spend the next 14 years working on it Asha.

GNR Bassist announces solo album

Tommy Stinson (no, us neither), the apparent current bassist of Guns N’ Roses, is apparently ready to release a solo album in August. The album will be called One Man Mutiny and is apparently the bassist’s second. I mean really? What was the first one?

Expect another 400 Tommy Stinson solo albums before the next Guns N’ Roses album.

DJ Ashba was judged

One Guns N’ Roses guitarist (they have like 5 or something) talks about being judged while growing up and being an outsider… Hmm, I wonder why that was…

I was judged my whole life, looking like I do, before I became what I became. […] People always looking at me like I never fit in.

Looking like what? Pierced lip, eyeliner, tattoos? Well it’s not like you were born with those, I’m pretty sure you looked normal without them. You chose to look different than everyone else so why were you surprised you didn’t fit in?

Now I go home and it’s like the hometown hero. The fact is, I ignored everybody and followed my heart — that’s the key to any success.

I disagree that the key to success is to make yourself look like an outcast and ignore everyone. What’s wrong with having a lot of friends and still following your heart? Being socially apt and having a music career are not mutually exclusive.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s fucked up if he had problems growing up because no kid deserves to have his self-esteem messed up just because of dumb bullies. But why would you choose to look like that if you don’t like being the outcast? I like rock music too but I don’t necessarily show it through my clothing.

This thought of “fuck everybody, do it your way” is only a good advice coming from success stories. How many other musicians who ‘kept it real’ ended up working at McDonald’s in their 50s?

But hey, can’t really judge the guy. I don’t know him and I don’t know what he’s been through… I do know what he’s saying about everyone wanting to be his friend now that he’s pretty well known. The world is so hypocritical, it’s not even funny.

Friday Top 10: Shitty sellout songs

This week’s Friday Top 10 is all about those ridiculous ‘sell out’ songs. You know the ones; you have a band that YOU love, it’s YOUR band, and then all of a sudden, they release some bullshit single and every fucker suddenly likes them. Or sometimes bands just like to “broaden their horizons” and “explore new territories” – Read dumb their shit down for the masses or follow the current trend.

Now, I’m not looking to get into a debate about the definition of “sell out” or discuss the pros and cons of bands taking different paths, this is just a bit of fun. So make the jump, and have a laugh at some of these ridiculous songs. Or don’t, I still don’t get paid at the end of the week regardless.
