Dan Nelson vs. Anthrax, round 2

We all thought Nelsonthrax drama was over. Dan was out, Belladonna was in, Anthrax finally released Worship Music and Nelson started working on his new band BlackGates. Whenever Ian or Benante were asked in interviews about Nelson, they had nothing but bad things to say about him though. I guess Dan Nelson took notice of that, because he is now suing the band for $2.65 million.

A former lead singer of the band Anthrax filed suit yesterday over the fallout from his 2009 ouster from the popular “thrash” combo founded in New York City.

Dan Nelson says drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frank Bello and guitarist Scott Ian falsely stated in “numerous interviews” that he had “abruptly resigned” after getting sick, forcing a cancelation of a tour.

The $2.65 million suit also alleges that Benante last month told the rock-news site Blabbermouth.net that Nelson “was a bully.”

The Long Island native says his ex-bandmates’ “intentional defamation” has caused him a loss of income and damaged his reputation.

The Manhattan federal court filing further charges that Nelson co-wrote the tunes on the band’s latest album, “Worship Music,” but hasn’t gotten his fair share of the profits.

As usually, we don’t know all details of the story but, with this suit, there is a good chance we will get to know the details sometime in the future.

I can only say the following. Scott Ian and Charlie Benante did talk a whole lot of shit about Dan Nelson in the press. This is speculation, but maybe the band tried to turn Nelson into the bad guy, the only one responsible for this mess, to save face and get back some of their integrity.

I’ve personally been in steady contact with Dan for quite some time, even though that sadly died down in the past couple of months. I can only say good things about him. He’s been extremely nice to me and shared a lot with me. Be it stories or music. So I can’t share the “Nelson is a monster” view, unless you’re referring to his vocal abilities, with which he shits all over Belladonna.

I can only say this: I can understand why Nelson filed suit, and I hope everyone involved can finally sort this out and put it to rest. This has not just been damaging Nelson’s reputation, but also Anthrax’s.

Weak Recap: Hello, we’re metal!

We’re one of the last of a dying breed. We’re the Albert Einstein of brutality, the William Shakespear of violence, the Arnold Schwarzenegger of funny, the Michael Jackson of metal. All these comparisons are way off though… because we’re better than those guys and we’re certainly better than anyone else out there, including you!

We’re so good, we’re interviewing each other. Who needs interviews with musicians, who have been interviewed already thousands of times? No one!

So, you want to know what happened this past week in metal? Make the jump, we’ll teach you a lesson.

BlackGates release second song

I already love this band. BlackGates just released their second song/demo on Reverbnation yesterday and — just like ‘Seeds Of War’ — this song, called ‘Break,’ kills.

Don’t believe me? Listen to it below. You can also listen to ‘Seeds Of War’ while you’re at it. May aswell enjoy two great songs.

Blast from the Past: Inside Hollow – The Lazarus Pit

By now, you should have already noticed that I’m a fan of Dan Nelson and I’m proud to say that Dan is a friend of this site. You will find out more about that soon on your favorite site on the net, Dose of Metal.

Sadly, there’s not much of his work available on the net, or anywhere else for that matter. The closest thing to an album, that you can find anywhere, is Inside Hollow’s album from 2006, called ‘The Lazarus Pit.’ I’m not sure you can call it an album though. Judging from its’ lenght, I’d say it’s an EP. Check it out for yourself, because you can listen to it in its’ entirety on MySpace.

I’ve been listening to said album for the past two days, pretty much non-stop. Check out what I think of ‘The Lazarus Pit’ after the jump.

Dan Nelson is a busy man

Dan Nelson (pictured above with his Blackgates bandmates) is hard at work. Here’s a little overview of what he’s been up to lately:

  • Blackgates released their first song ‘Seeds Of War’ (listen to the song below) on their official Reverbnation site and are going to release a second song next saturday. Stay updated on Facebook.

  • After a reunion concert last saturday in New York City (videos after the jump), Inside Hollow, with Nelson on vocals, decided to get back together as a full-time band. You can listen to their album from 2005, called ‘The Lazarus Pit,’ on their MySpace page. Take it from me, it’s awesome!
  • Farewell to Washington, Dan’s third band, are on a break for now with their two additional bandmembers being busy with work and personal related stuff.

Now, make the jump for the live videos of the above mentioned Inside Hollow reunion gig.
