Best of… shit you've (probably) never heard of before

Who likes to find new music? One benefit of being a metalhead is that there are literally millions of bands out there to discover.

You want some Melodic Death from the mid-90’s? No problem. Thrash from the late-90’s? No problem. Brutal Death from the early-00’s? No fucking problem. It’s out there, just dig deep enough.

One portal that helped me discover “new” (not necessarily new in general but new to me) bands is Metal Archives. They basically cover every metal band that ever fucking played. No shit.

I’m going to give you a quick rundown of bands, that are fairly unknown but still pretty fucking sweet, after the jump.

Jump! Jump! Jump! Everybody jump!

AC/DC Download an award

When I first heard about this, I just assumed AC/DC were cheap, technology had advanced, and the band had just downloaded an award. Turns out I was wrong though.

Apparently, the band have won the UK ‘Headline Performance Of The Year’ award, for their performance at this year’s Download Festival. It was indeed awesome (but that was mostly because I was there), but they don’t have a lot to rival them. Who’s their next biggest rival to the award? Guns N’ Posers turning up an hour late at Reading and then throwing a hissy fit when they get cut off? Hardly.

Well, speaking on behalf of everyone at DoM, congratulations AC/DC and to Download for their award.

P.S. Did I mention I was there?

Friday headlines

Jeff Kendrick (pictured above) of Devildriver got interviewed.  He talks about how you can stay fresh with fresh material. He sounds like a black guy, really.

Avenged Sevenfold are doing something wonderful. No, not breaking up, stop wishful thinking. They are playing for the troops in the Middle East. Aww, so nice of them.

Holy Grail is organizing a meet and greet at ‘Duff’s Brooklyn‘ after their NY date. Isn’t that awesome? $5 says the Pope shows up.

Deadlock made it official. Their new album is called ‘Bizarro World‘ and if you want to know when not to buy it, it’s coming out February 28th of next year. Unless you live in Germany, then it’s February 25th. Racists.
