Friday Top 10: Best album covers
It’s Friday and therefore it’s time for another Top 10 list. We’ve done worst album covers in November and most brutal album covers last week, but somehow we’ve never done best album covers. So, I guess it’s about fucking time.
Before we dive right into it, I want to let you know that, despite labeling it one of my favorite album artworks, I won’t include Slayer’s ‘Christ Illusion’ for the simple reason that I want a fresh Top 10.
Feel free to make the jump now… or die trying!
Mike is the drummer for Dream Theater after all
As expected, Dream Theater have chosen Mike to be their drummer. Except it’s not Portnoy, it’s the other one. Mangina or whatever his last name is. Here’s what he had to say of the situation:
“It means so much to me, I almost felt like crying a couple of times. [Laughs] I didn’t know what to do.”
Well, I know what I’d do: count my lucky stars, and start thinking of that beach house I always wanted to spend my retirement in.
To remind you, Mike Mangini was one of the seven drummers who were chosen to audition for the role. The entire list:
Aquiles Priester (age 39) (Angra, Paul Di’Anno)
Peter Wildoer (age 36) (Darkane)
Marco Minnemann (age 40) (Kreator, Necrophagist, Ephel Duath, Joe Satriani)
Virgil Donati (age 52) (Planet X, Seven the Hardway)
Derek Roddy (age 38) (Hate Eternal, Nile, Today is the Day)
Mike Mangini (age 48) (Steve Vai, Extreme, Annihilator)
Thomas Lang (age 43) (John Wetton, Robert Fripp, Glenn Hughes)
Rumor has it Lars Ulrich was supposed to audition as well, but the other guys insisted it wouldn’t be fair, so they bribed some film producers to keep him busy instead.
Royal wedding special
TV, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, you name it. The media’s been infested today by the royal wedding so we have to jump on the bandwagon.
But there’s one member of the royal family that didn’t make his appearance at that godforsaken wedding. His name is KERRY KING and thou shalt bow down to him.
Make the jump, mortal.
Two hour Big Four special

Thanks.
Oh yeah, speaking of these guys… Watch the Californian performance ‘Am I Evil’ as filmed by someone from Scott Ian’s entourage or something… After the jump.
Phil takes one for the team…
Phil Anselmo got hit in the head by Pepper Keenan’s guitar during a Down show last night. He continued to perform with a bloody head. Because blood is metal.
Dave “Snake” Sabo (who?) reported this via Twitter:
“Holy shit! Pepper Keenan just hit Anselmo in the head w/ his gtr by accident & busted Philips head open! Blood all over the place! But they keep going!! Fucking awesome!“
Read full tweet here.
Blabbermouth has actual photos of the incident, we didn’t want to scare the kids and just drew some blood in paint. I think our photo looks better than the real ones but hey, what can you do?
