Review: Rolo Tomassi – Eternal Youth

This month, in celebration of the start of their own record label, insane noisecore crew Rolo Tomassi have released a special two-disc anthology of rare and unreleased material spanning their six year career, Eternal Youth. In case you didn’t know, the band released their second studio album last year, and I rather liked it.

B-side and remix albums are always a tricky one, because often they’re full of filler material that was left of studio albums for a reason, whilst other times the material at hand is too different from what fans come to expect from the band, that the fans take a dislike to it. But more often than not, they only appeal to the most hardcore of hardcore fans and no one else.

So what do I make of Eternal Youth? Make the jump to find out.

Start your week with…

… a fucking SHITSTORM!

This week’s album of choice for me, is Strapping Young Lad‘s 2005 album Alien. If you want to start your week with a bang, there’s no better way than waking up to the sound of ‘Shitstorm.’ You can listen to the song below, but due to how shitty Youtube’s audio quality is, and especially with how thick and brutal the track is, I highly suggest you buy the album if you haven’t done so already.

Learn to kick as much ass as Amon Amarth

Today really is your lucky day, earlier today you were taught how to kick ass like Devildriver by the band’s guitarists themselves, and now Johan Söderberg and Olavi Mikkonen of  Amon Amarth talk to Guitar World magazine about their gear set-up and show you how to play the intro to ‘War Of The Gods’.

You can check out the video above. Try to contain your excitement if you can. I tried, but failed, and now I need a clean pair of pants.

TesseracT goes acoustic

Manic Tech-Metal Progressive djentlemen TesseracT recently performed a special acoustic set at Brooklyn’s Fastlane studios for Metal Injection. You can watch a video from this set above.

Posting via their Facebook page TesseracT had the following to say:

“We’ve kind of been blown away by the response to the acoustic versions of our tracks. Its given us some ideas for the future for sure. Thank you to Metal Injection, Warwick Basses, Mesa Boogie, Crush Drums and Percussion, SABIAN Cymbals and the wonderful Century Media Records for making it happen”

TesseracT released their debut album One earlier this year, and you can check out what we thought of it by clicking here.

Learn to kick as much ass as Devildriver

We all know that Devildriver kick ass, but I bet you’re wondering just how you can learn to kick as much ass as Devildriver, am I right?

Well consider this your lucky day. Today will be your greatest day yet (if you’re reading this site I’m going to presume you haven’t lost your virginity yet – I know I haven’t), because All Axess has posted a new video guitar lesson featuring the band’s two guitarists, Mike Spreitzer and Jeff Kendrick, teaching you how to play the Devildriver song ‘End Of The Line’ and you can check out the video above.
