Metallica will play another corporate gig
I always thought the beauty of being as big as Metallica was not having to compromise your integrity for money, since you’re making enough on your own. I guess I was wrong.
Metallica are playing their second corporate gig in less than a year. This time they can’t even hide behind the Guitar Hero excuse.
“It all started when Kirk mentioned that his next door neighbor had invited us to play at his party in San Francisco and we figured “why not?” After all, it has been quite some time since we’ve played in our hometown, and we haven’t exactly been getting out a lot lately. Well, it turns out that Kirk’s neighbor, Marc Benioff, is the top dog at a “small” company called Salesforce.com and his shindig actually lasts for four days and hosts over 30,000 people! So much for a little backyard barbeque“
Read full statement here.
So it’s not like it was a negotiated thing or anything. Kirk’s neighbor just asked if one of the biggest bands around could attend his bbq, Kirk said yes, then they realized it’s for Salesforce.com. Don’t blame them, it was an accident. Money good.
I have a lot of Monopoly puns in my head right now, but I’ll save them for later. The good news is that if you’re in MetClub, they’re giving away ‘hundreds’ of tickets for this thing, so check that out. At least they take care of their fans, which is always nice.
Nirvana’s Nevermind will turn 20
Nirvana‘s classic album, Nervemind, was released on September 24, 1991. I bet Michael Jackson loved the cover.
Anyway, if you do a little math, it will turn 20 this September. Will someone try to milk the occasion and milk this some more? Of course.
“Universal Music Enterprises is pleased to announce the 4-CD/1-DVD Super Deluxe Edition of Nirvana‘s Nevermind available September 19, 2011, in the U.K. and September 20, 2011, in North America. The CDs will include previously unreleased recordings, rarities, B-sides, BBC radio appearances, alternative mixes, rare live recordings and an unreleased concert in its entirety on DVD.“

Aww, isn’t that sweet? A lot of shit I don’t care about repackaged so we all buy this thing yet again. And people say record companies are greedy.
Speaking of this album though, read Guido’s Tuesday Trivia about a certain musician being in the video for ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit.’ Although you probably did already, cause you’re a fan of this site and we own.
Anthrax drummer down with technology
Anthrax drummer Charlie Benante is no stranger to technology. Maybe just HD technology. Cause he launched his own motherfucking YouTube channel, yo. And you can see a lot of videos of him (like the one above).
The only problem is that all videos are 360p and look like they’re from the early days of YouTube. A bit of HD content can’t hurt, you know? Hopefully he’ll do that soon.
Anyway, check it out if you have the chance.
Metalheadlines
Clever title, right? Blow me. Let’s talk some headlines, yo:
Slipknot (pictured above) played their first headlining show without Paul Gray two days ago in Berlin. What’s interesting about this performance is that they got their old red suits and old masks for it. Nostalgia alert, if you ever liked them. Make the jump to see a few badly shot videos of the gig. Or don’t. See if I care.
We’ve talked before about Queensrÿche, the band that has two dots over the y, making me go to Wikipedia so I can copy it and paste it here. Their drummer, Marko Syrjälä (argh, here we go again with those dots), talked about the new album and a bunch of other stuff in this interview. Their guitarist, Mike Wilton, also talked about the new album, but in a statement on their official site. Apparently he’s 100% behind the new record. Gee, what a surprise.
Katatonia have released a free iPhone app. It’s called ‘Katatonia’ (go figure) and you can get it here. The great thing about it is that it lists all the band’s tour dates, so you know which cities to avoid and when. Awesome.
Bruce Dickinson’s son also has a band. And that band will release their debut album in September. Gee, I wonder if who his daddy is played a part in them getting a record deal. Doubtful. In the music industry, it’s not whom you know, it’s simply about talent. Haha, I crack myself up. Anyways, band is called Rise To Remain, album is called City Of Vultures and you can watch the video of their debut single after the jump.
Machine Head will tour Europe with Bring Me The Horizon, Devildriver and Darkest Hour later this year. In other equally interesting news, I spilled mustard on my favorite shirt today. Dates after the jump.
Five Finger Death Punch reveal new bassist
Five Finger Death Punch have found a new bassist, and I’m betting you’re all excited to find out who they’ve picked? Oh no, wait, I forgot that no one cares.
So any way, the new bassist is Chris Kael (who?) and he looks like Varg Vikernes.
Is he under 6ft in height, under 35 years old and a non smoker? I sure hope so, because that’s the criteria the band put forward for auditions, even if the band did later claim it was fake.
If you care (which you shouldn’t if you have any care for your ears), more information can be found at Blabbermouth.
