New videos and free music round up
The title makes it sound like I’m going to provide for all your musical needs for at least a month, but it’s really just one song and a few videos. Well, you’re here, so… Make the jump and download the full Cavalera Conspiracy track, watch the video for “Better Man” by Hellyeah, “Ad Mortem” by Famine, or just scroll down and watch the best of the bunch, DevilDriver’s “Dead To Rights.”
Someone went all ‘Metallica’ on Lars
Well well well. I’m not gonna mention karma but guess what, Lars just got sued. Was he found downloading on Napster? Close. He allegedly didn’t pay his assistant for a full year.
“A Sausalito man who worked as a personal assistant to Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has filed a lawsuit claiming years of unpaid overtime. Steven Wiig, 38, is seeking unspecified damages for alleged state and federal labor violations, breach of oral contract and continuing wages, according to the suit in Marin Superior Court. The lawsuit names Ulrich and Team Tours, a Burbank company that issued Wiig’s paychecks, as defendants.“

I wouldn’t be so quick to judge Lars though, how many people sue famous and rich musicians all the time for a quick buck? I judge Lars for St. Anger though and his horrible ‘biscuit tin can’ snare.

Now I’m not too fond of VIP Experience packages (I’m cheap more of an old school guy just interested in simply seeing bands perform live at a show) but I know lot of you guys are into these packages so here you go:
You get your typical meet-and-greet with band members, photo taken with them, early entry to see the pre-concert sound check, a general-admission ticket, a Pepper Keenan-designed T-shirt , a VIP access laminate and a $5 gift card to the Down-Nola.com online store.
Tickets to the shows can be found here and here
No more Guitar Hero
No, this is not an editorial on the sad fact that guitar gods are endangered species. It’s about your favorite video game! Well, guess what? You won’t be playing a new one this year, because Activision have announced plans to scrap the latest Guitar Hero title.
“Oh no, but what can I possibly spend the hard earned money my parents gave me on, if I can’t buy a new game which is essentially a rehash of the previous five and could have easily been offered as a free or affordable download pack if Activision wasn’t a greedy evil company in the first place? Wait, I know, I’ll buy a new Rockband game instead!”
Tough luck kiddo, because Rockband is on the same path. The path of going nowhere, that is. So it’s not really a path at all…
So listen to your uncle Simo. There are pros and cons to the Guitar Hero games, but this year, you could consider buying a real guitar for that money, you know. Just a thought. God knows I wish I spent less money on games and more on porn magazines when I was a kid.
Weekly Dose of Metal: Alestorm
It’s time for another Dose of Metal. Twis week we’re bringing you Alestorm, True Scottish Pirate Metallers. That’s damn right, Pirate themed Metal. Yarr!
Alestorm started as Battleheart in 2004 but changed their name to Alestorm when they signed to Napalm Records in 2007. Ever since, Alestorm have been looting and molesting women all over Europe, like when they toured with Pagan Fest alongside Ex Deo, Unleashed and Korpiklaani. I’ve seen them live on that particular tour and I got to say that they are a lot of fun live.
This very song, called ‘That famous ol’ spiced,’ perfectly showcases Alestorm’s style of Pirate Metal. Yarr!
