Why Rex quit Down and joined another band

Rex Brown quit Down, made a lot of fans frown. But at least he’s not Armenian, like System of a Down.

Sorry, I have my poetry class on Sunday, and I need practice.

Watch an interview with Rex’s new band, Kill Devil Hill. Apparently the main reason for his departure is him being around Anselmo for too long, at least that’s how it sounds:

I was playing with Down a whole bit and I just kind of got tired of the… You know, Philip and I had been together 23 years. And when I first met these guys in January of this year, when I walked in and we played in the rehearsal room, it just clicked.

Oh, okay. Thought it was because of the injury or something. At least I got to see Down live with Rex still in the lineup. That sort of makes up for my never seeing Pantera live  — at least I saw half of it.

Good luck to Rex’s new band, I guess.

Get on down with Down

I’m not quite sure what ‘get on down with’ means in this context, or if it’s a sexual innuendo (what’s sex?), but by now you have probably discovered you can watch some ass kicking, high-quality live footage of Down above, courtesy of Superskum.com, so who the fuck cares, right? Just press play already. The footage is taken from the band’s September 6 performance at the Summit Music Hall in Denver, Colorado. If that wets your whistle a little bit, why not check out more videos after the jump.

In other Down related news, the band confirmed earlier this year that they are planning to release four separate EPs over the next year or two. For more on this, check Blabbermouth.

Ghosts along the dose of metal

Phil Anselmo’s been in about 1,235 bands. But my favorite Phil band (aside from Panfuckingtera of course) has to be Down.

I don’t like all their songs but ‘Ghosts…’ is a personal favorite. Enjoy the video above.

Weak Recap: Mark your territory

Last week’s been all about Mark. He’s posted the most posts (read: all of them) because everyone else was busy. He’s taken one for the team and spent less time watching porn and more time writing for the site.

So it seems fitting that this weekend I get to interview him and ask him what he thinks on (mostly) his posts from this week.

Actually, we just have an order of interviewing each other for this self-indulgent and shitty awesome Weak Recap thing, and it just so happens that it’s Mark’s turn to be interviewed. Last week he interviewed me.

Make the jump and read the interview with the most amazing DoM writer (after myself and the other guys).

P.S. = That’s not Mark and his girlfriend above. Mark’s girlfriend is much fatter.

Down-Loaded

Down and Loaded should get on like a house on fire, in fact they could both merge and form a new band called Downloaded. But lame jokes aside, Duff Mckagan’s Loaded recently joined Down on stage on June 14, 2011 at Ancienne Belgique in Brussels, Belgium to perform the Down song ‘Bury Me In Smoke’.

You can view a video of the performance above.
