Are they evil?

Stupid post title puns aside, a clip of the Big Four performing “Am I Evil?” at their recent show in Indio, California has hit Metallica.com, and now, doseofmetal.com. You decide which one’s more important, and more metal.

doseofmetal.com

Back on topic, the video is sort of raw footage, but the sound is more than decent, so make sure you hit that play button. What else? O yeah, James had a little speech, celebrating all the other “big however many” bands that didn’t make it in the business as well as them, and of course, a whole lot of touchy feely stuff when the other bands get on stage. I almost shed a tear. But then again, I’m not 13, and I only cry when I have sex.

Tuesday Trivia: Of skulls and bones

Dose of Metal writers are awesome

It’s Tuesday Trivia, almost Wednesday edition. So what do I have for you today?

Bones. Are they metal? Well, if you’re over 70, chances are that yes, they are, but we’re talking imagery here. If the most awesome site on the internet has a skull for a mascot (he’s called Bob by the way), and one of the most amazing writers has a skull sitting on his work desk (thanks Guido), it’s fair we I make an article about it. And it’s fair you make the jump.

I can’t join FFDP (and neither can you)

FFDP stands for Five Finger Death Punch, in case you care (but now you know, you will probably want to five finger death punch your monitor screen in). They also recently lost a bass player, which means they’re on the lookout for a new one. Think you have what it takes? Then why not apply?

Just make sure that you don’t drink too much alcohol, don’t smoke, your image is “alternative/Metal” enough to fit in, you’re not over 35, you’re under 6 foot tall, you have some tattoos, you’re not fat, not skinny, and a bunch of other crap. Yeah, well that’s me out… Equal opportunities FTW!

According to Metalsucks, some rep for the band has also alleged that the band were not involved with the flier (which can be viewed after the jump), and that it was mistake of some sorts… Hmm.

Remembering: Pushmeunder

This little segment I’m running today, is done so to remember the bands that left us all too soon, that left a mark on some of our lives. What’s that, I hear you ask? Who the fuck are Pushmeunder? Ok then, what I’m saying is, I will be remembering a random band you’ve never heard of, and you’ll be sat reading thinking either “wow, this a really interesting read. This band is great, and Mark is awesome for introducing them” or more likely “I’m bored, where’s the porn?”

Regardless, Pushmeunder were a band from the UK, that I really got into about 5 or 6 years ago. They released one EP, called The Day Lacks Colour, The Night Lacks Promise, which managed to gain brilliant reviews from magazines such as Kerrang and Metal Hammer. However, for whatever reason, the band disbanded shortly after and all the members moved onto other projects. The drummer actually went on to join Esoteric, who I have posted about before.

Overall, I still think Pushmeunder were a great band and broke up way too soon. A lot of people cannot get into the vocals and production, but musically I think the band are top notch, combining the best elements of bands like Mogwai, Envy and Cult of Luna. The band’s song ‘It’s Hell on Earth But We’re Safe in Our Black Hole’ can be listened to above.

Whocares? I do and so should you

Do you care that Whocares have released some singles details? Perhaps you will if I were to tell you that Whocares is the name of the new music project staring none other than the legends that are Ian Gillan (Deep Purple), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath etc), Jon Lord, Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden), Mikko “Linde” Lindström (HIM) and Jason Newsted (Metallica). Seriously, this must be the superest super group ever. Like Superman on speed.

Whocares will release both ‘Out Of My Mind‘ and ‘Holy Water’ on  May 6: The CD single will also contain the video clip of ‘Out Of My Mind’ and a 40-minute documentary that displays Gillan’s and Iommi’s involvement with the Armenia cause over the years.

Check out the trailer above, and read Blabbermouth for more information.
