Friday Top 10: Shitty sellout songs

This week’s Friday Top 10 is all about those ridiculous ‘sell out’ songs. You know the ones; you have a band that YOU love, it’s YOUR band, and then all of a sudden, they release some bullshit single and every fucker suddenly likes them. Or sometimes bands just like to “broaden their horizons” and “explore new territories” – Read dumb their shit down for the masses or follow the current trend.

Now, I’m not looking to get into a debate about the definition of “sell out” or discuss the pros and cons of bands taking different paths, this is just a bit of fun. So make the jump, and have a laugh at some of these ridiculous songs. Or don’t, I still don’t get paid at the end of the week regardless.

In Flames Deliver Us a new song

In Flames, the band that were once great, and now aren’t so much, are ready to deliver us a new song (called Deliver Us I believe). during this weekend’s (May 6-8) edition of Full Metal Jackie‘s nationally syndicated radio show. In addition to this, the band’s guitarist, Björn Gelotte will also be interviewed on the program.

To see a full list of stations carrying the show and when it airs, go to FullMetalJackieRadio.com. Blabbermouth have all the relevant information, in case you still care about In Flames, and if you do still care, can I ask “why!?”

Review: Split Roast

Today I’m going to review a sampler called Split Roast by Condate Records, that includes songs by Colonel Blast (pictured on the upper left), Cancerous Womb (upper middle), Diascorium (upper right), Magpyes (lower left) and Dyscaphia (lower right).

Five Death Metal bands from the UK, twenty songs, almost 60 minutes of music and the CD only costs five British pounds. Sounds like a good deal to me but first, let’s listen to the album to see if it’s worth these five pounds. Make the jump for my review of Split Roast and take your time, it’s going to be a long one.

Evile announce Five Serpents’ Teeth

Evile, “the popular Rock outfit”, have announced that their forthcoming album will be called Five Serpents’ Teeth, and is scheduled for release in August this year.

Matt Drake gives the announcement, plus a whole array of shit I cannot be bothered to type up, in the video above.

Expect the album to kick your ass, kill your mother, beat your ears, crush your heart, and eat you soul, among other things.

Caliban covers

I don’t know which is more surprising; the fact Caliban still exist (German Metalcore band, from the early/mid 2000’s, remember?) or the fact that they’ve covered The Beatles’ Helter Skelter for an upcoming covers EP, called Coverfield (what is it with bands making covers albums and trying to give them clever titles?).

The tracklisting for the EP is as follows:

01. My Girlfriend’s Girlfriend (Type O’ Negative)
02. Sonne (Rammstein)
03. Blinded By Fear (At The Gates)
04. Helter Skelter (The Beatles)

You can listen to a sample of the band’s Beatles cover on the player below. Don’t worry, it sounds nothing like The Beatles, luckily.
