The Damned performance

The Damned Things, a band featuring two Anthrax members and some other dudes from bands I’d never listen to if you threatened me with a lead enema, performed their single on ‘Jimmy Kimmel.’

You can watch the performance under the cut, it’s HD and it’s pretty intense, and by intense I mean not intense at all, unless you think a French director goofing around behind the band is intense.

Yes, that is Michel Gondry, a visionary director who made some mighty interesting commercials and music videos back in the day, but who’s now reduced to doing Seth Rogen films and Kimmel skits. It’s sad when a pioneering artist has to sell out like that, but it fits that he should do so near The Damned Things, know what I mean?

God I’m so subtle. Also check out our review of their album, while you’re at it.

Iron Maiden mastermind

I always thought being a huge fan of a band was about their music and the way you relate to it, not about how many obscure facts you know about them. But I must be in the minority, because whenever I talk to a fan about his favorite band, he always seems to sheepishly insert or allude to trivia nobody gives a fuck about, just to prove how big a fan he is. Oh right, so you know in what year Lars Ulrich bought his first condom? You must get Metallica, man.

Anyways,  there’s a British show called “Mastermind” which glorifies these types of fans, and right now it’s Iron Maiden‘s turn. Some 27 year old fan will apparently answer questions about his favorite band on TV or something like that, I really didn’t have the patience to read the whole article. Think you do? Then read it here.

Make the jump to see a Metallica fan on the very same show. Make the jump off a bridge if you knew all the right answers, too.

Korn “virtual” meet-and-greet

Nu-Metal creators, Korn are apparently set to take place in a “virtual” meet-and-greet tonight. Presumably this will be with some “virtual fans” too. A bit like Virtual Pets, only I’m guessing Korn will be answering some “virtual” questions, rather than “feeding” the fans and “cleaning” up their shit.

But in all seriousness, I have this completely wrong. All this “virtual meet-and-greet” is, is a meet-and-greet done via the amazing powers of the internet. Korn wouldn’t have to make up some virtual fans, of course..

Anyways, if you actually want some details on this amazing event (that’s some virtual sarcasm BTW), then you can find more information here.

Muse are worried

Muse

When I read about Muse complaining about their high powered live shows, I immediately thought the band are on a quest to go green and lecture us about it along the way or something. I was wrong.

Rockers Muse worry about the effects their elaborate stage shows have on their health – they’re convinced their powerful lasers will one day blind them.

“We got some big white balloons, threw them into the audience and decided to focus the lasers on them. It was like a slow burn that gradually disintegrated them into nothing. We all thought, ‘What the hell will our corneas be like in 20 years?’” drummer Dominic Howard said. “We could end up like that amazing vocal group the Blind Boys of Alabama – getting around doing it really well but not seeing anything.”

I don’t know what their corneas might look like in 20 years, but “Suppermassive Black Hole” might get a new meaning.
