Friday Top 10: Best Judas Priest songs

If you’re a loyal reader of Dose of Metal, then you know one of our most exciting aspects of this site is our very own Friday Top 10.  When composing  a top 10 list for bands, we feel we’ve covered the most important bands ever: Metallica, Iron Maiden, AC/DC, and most recently, Black Sabbath.  That being said, it would only make sense to include a certain band from Birmingham, England, to that list.

Regardless if you like them or not, Judas Priest are one of the greatest and most influential metal bands of all time. Fact.  Rob Halford and the boys formed in 1969 and since have released 16 albums (7 or 8 of them are ranked absolute classics in the metal world).

Feel free to complain about ‘Breaking The Law,‘ ‘You’ve Got Another Thing Comin,‘ and other songs not making the list.   Positive or negative comments are always welcomed here at Dose of Metal, so bitch post away!

Okay, it’s that time again! So, make the jump….

Interview: Jason Decay (Cauldron)

Jason Decay (Cauldron)

I was recently at a Goat Horn show and crossed paths with their main man Jason Decay. Jason also happens to be the bassist and vocalist for one of my favorite up and coming bands: Cauldron.

Cauldron are a heavy metal band hailing from Toronto. They are signed to Earache Records and have two studio albums released: Chained to the Nite and Burning Fortune.

Back to Jason Decay, he was nice enough for a little Q & A, so I suggest you make the jump for see what was discussed!

Friday Top 10 : Best Soundgarden songs

If you were born anywhere in between 1975 and 1985, chances are you grew up in the 90s listening to Soundgarden.

Soundgarden formed in the 1980s and started gaining success with their third studio album, Badmotorfinger, an album where many (myself included) think it was them as their peak. It was the perfect mix of rock, grunge and metal — all packed into one and Chris Cornell at the time was possibly one of the best vocalists around. However, it wasn’t until 1994 that they became a household name. You coudn’t turn on a modern rock station without hearing ‘Spoonman’ or ‘Black Hole Sun.’

1997 was the year in which Soundgarden broke up. I was young and unfortunately never thought I’d get the chance to see them. I never imagined, in my wildest dreams, that they would return, but obviously in 2010 they announced that they were back. I felt like an excited 14 year old all over again and I was fortune enough to see them live a couple of weeks ago.

I recently just finished composing a Soundgarden top 10 list. Oh yeah, feel free to tell me that I missed out on certain tracks or that certain songs should be higher or lower. It might not of been as hard as an Iron Maiden top 10, but it was still quite a challenge.

Make the jump for the top 10 Soundgarden songs ever!

Yes… it’s that time… Headlines!

Is ‘Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?’ an album you really enjoy?  If so, go over to AOL and stream the remastered version. I’ve listen to a few of the remastered songs and they sound great! If you don’t own the album, I suggest buying it because a) it rules and b) you can’t go wrong with a lot of bonus tracks!

Jag Panzer lost a guitar player. No, not the one that we interviewed earlier this year – it was the other dude. Christian Lasegue (pictured above) left the band for “college studies.” ‘The Scourage of the Light‘ is one of the best albums of 2011, so it sucks when a band as good as Jag Panzer doesn’t sell much. Oh well, that happens a lot in the metal world.

Fair To Midland posted an acoustic three song set. One of the songs can be viewed it here. My apologies for posting this.

Puscifer recently debuted their new single ‘Man Overboard’ from their upcoming new album, ‘Conditions of My Parole‘, over at Spin. Come on, Maynard! Enough of this Puscifer junk!  No one likes this project. Be kind to your fans and release new Tool or A Perfect Circle albums.

Queensrÿche want you to think they’re hip

Geoff Tate, vocalist of Queensrÿche, conducted an interview recently with a magazine from the U.K.

Basically, Geoff discusses how he is glad people listen to music these days on their iPods and iPhones and that he doesn’t miss the vinyl days one bit.  He also denies they are prog metal and that rock music is dead.

Rock is pretty much dead. If you look at the numbers, it’s definitely not the music of the times anymore. If it’s gonna keep moving, bands need to embrace new ideas. There’s a lot of elements to rock that, mentally speaking, are kinda boneheaded. Like the whole “chunk-chunk-chunk” guitar progression — the stuff you play when you’re learning the damn thing. You would hope bands would get beyond that.

The rest of the interview can be found in the latest issue of  U.K.’s Classic Rock magazine (people still buy music magazines? Lolz).

If you want to check out their most recent snooze fest single, ‘Get Started,’ then click here.  Or you can click here for a better Queensrÿche song.
