Dose of Love

So tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, and you know what that means? That’s right, it’s the day I get to watch porn all by myself, all day. Wait… I do that every day.

So ok, Valentine’s day kind of sucks. If you’re single, you get it completely rubbed in your face all day long. If you’re in a relationship, you’re expected to actually pull of some fantastic shit to impress your partner, when actually, you’d rather be down the pub getting drunk with your mates. And then there’s the problems of when you’re in a relationship, but you’re not quite at that stage yet where you know what you to do for Valentine’s day. Do you just do nothing? Send a card? All go all out?

Fuck off, who cares? All I know if I love listening to some fantastic Metal music, regardless of what day it is. So let’s have some slightly Valentine’s day inspired Metal doses today. Don’t worry, you’re not going to get any Linkin Park crap here, I’m still going to be offering some real Metal, it’s just Metal songs about love.

Find out what I mean after the jump. You know you need your Metal dosage.

Strapping Young Lad – Love?

I couldn’t just do a whole post dedicated to Metal love tracks, and omit this classic could I? What is love about? Is it about penis’s? Is it about vaginas? No, love is “a way of feeling.. Love is a way of feeling less alone. So what’s all the fuss about? Fuck it. Love, the paradox of needing. Love, make way for BREEDING.”  Does that answer your question? Even if it doesn’t, you can’t not rock out to this awesome track by Strapping Young Lad.

Bleeding Through – For Love and Failing

Ah Bleeding Through, the band that were ’emo’ enough to have, like, 4 albums and 48 tracks dedicated to just one girl who broke the singer’s heart. Perhaps that was just a rumor that was going around, I have no idea if it’s actually true or not, but all their early stuff does seem to revolve around the theme of love. So this Valentine’s Day, let these blast beats and harsh screams pierce through your shitty day, and hear the roar of  lyrics like “Without trying I would never fail, and I fell in love with failure.”

Bring Me The Horizon – Fuck

Yeah I know, you hate this band right? They’re not Metal right? The bandmembers look like women right? Yeah, well I don’t really care. Titled Fuck, Bring Me The Horizon might sound like they’re playing a track about sex and nothing more, merely trying to be provocative, but listen to the track closely, and it’s clear that this is a love song at heart. The song combines Metal screams, thrashing guitars, beautiful clean singing and heartfelt lyrics to great effect.

Cannibal Corpse – Fucked With a knife

There’s nothing more romantic than fucking your partner with a knife, and Cannibal Corpse have been good enough to describe this activity in the form of a luscious Death Metal ballad. No, but seriously, the song is pretty gross. From the first few verses of the song, it sounds like a hate anthem promoting rape. But then I read the lyrics towards the end saying that she rather enjoyed being fucked with a knife, so it’s all good really. I can now blast this song with a clean conscience. Unfortuantely, the track that follows this one on album The Bleeding, is called Stripped Raped and Strangled.

Killswitch Engage – Rose of Sharyn

Killswitch Engage, the ultimate Metalcore band. You should know the drill with Metalcore, basically every other song is about love. It’s a fairly ’emo’ genre, let’s be honest. In fact, it’s barely Metal at all. So why am I posting this then? Well, Killswitch Engage were always a damn good band. Were that is… I haven’t given a shit about them since the release of The End of Heartache, and you probably shouldn’t either.
