2011: The albums to watch out for (Pt. 2)

Hello and welcome to part 2 of my 2011: The albums to watch out for feature. I know, I know, not a very catchy name is it? But in my defence, I haven’t stopped drinking since Christmas Eve and I’m pretty sure I’ve now killed all but one of my remaining brain cells.

If you haven’t read part one yet, why not? Go do it now. And then come back and read part 2 after the jump.

The Haunted

That’s right, in case you haven’t been reading our news, The Haunted will be back this year with their seventh studio album, Unseen. After the mixed critical reception of The Dead End and Versus, you would expect the band to say that this time they’re going back to their roots etc right? Well wrong, because recently, frontman Peter Dolving has said that the band will continue with the progression they made on those two albums, and that they will still write the music they want to right. For that, I have to commend them. Besides, fuck critics, who cares what they think? Ok, I suppose you could say I’m a critic now (albeit one that only gets paid in blowjobs… and I mean I have to give them to keep this job), but you know what I mean.

Despite mixed reception of the last two albums, I absolutely loved both The Dead Eye and Versus, not to mention the albums before those two, so I cannot wait to check out the band’s seventh album.

Foo Fighters

Ok, so Foo Fighters aren’t exactly Metal are they? But I’ve always been a fan of the band. I must admit, I haven’t really enjoyed much of their music in more recent years… In fact, probably about ten years come to think of it. But if it means I don’t have to listen to Them Crappy Vultures for that bit longer, then color me interested. And besides, Foo Fighters are a fun band, so who knows, maybe this album will be the one where they get great again.

Rage Against The Machine

This one’s been rumored since it was first announced the band would be reuniting. The band have stated that they would only be playing a few shows, but demand for a new album has been high and the rumors have only been getting stronger. If you believe Zack, then the band will be working on a new album this year. But then, other band members have showed uncertainty of whether they want to write a new album.

Personally, I’m unsure of how excited I am at the prospect of a new RATM album. Part of me thinks, they’ve had their time, released some really strong albums, so is there any need for another album from them? Either way, it will be interesting to see what they come up with, if indeed the rumors are correct.

Anthrax

This one is a given. Hey, I may have absolutely no idea who the singer is, or will be by the time this is released, but it’s been like 8 years since 2003’s We’ve Come For You All.

The new album, apparently called Worship Music at the moment, is scheduled for release around the Easter period, and I can’t wait to hear it. Well mostly because I’m just curious which singer will make the cut. But jokes aside, it didn’t work out with John Bush, or Dan Nelson, I swear there was even rumors of Corey Taylor doing vox, but the final decision is it’s Joey Belladonna (well, at the time of writing). So it’s going to be good, if at least only for the sake of nostalgia.

Down

Ah Down, the Metal supergroup, containing ex members of Pantera, that acually release damn good music instead of crappy redneck inspired drivel unlike another certain supergroup containing ex members of Pantera.

If you’re looking forward to a new HellYeah! album, shoot yourself now, or better yet, don’t, and instead look forward to the new Down album. Not just a new Down album, but also a new EP too apparently.

The album is expected to hit shelves this summer, and if recent interviews are to be believed, this album will be more like the 1995 debut… Yeah so it’s another one of those “we’re going back to our roots” kind of albums, but considering how brilliant NOLA is, that can’t be too bad a thing.

So that’s your lot for now, thanks for reading. Will there be a part 3? Who knows? Maybe. Depends if I’m alive after tonight, because you know what day it is right? Have a Happy New Year!

P.S. And yes, those are Katy Perry’s boobs on the front picture. What can I say, I’m looking forward to seeing more of them in 2011.
