You win some, you lose some

Napalm Death

Napalm Death have a new song! Yay! But they split with their label… Nay? I have no idea what’s going on, but apparently they’re no longer with Century Media. New album is still scheduled to be recorded in May, and the new song “Legacy Was Yesterday” will be available through Decibel magazine’s flexi disc series, for those of you stuck in dark ages using CD players and reading magazines. Everyone else, just make the jump and listen to it straight away.

But wait, there’s more!

Otep also have a new song. That’s the losing part from the post title. I checked the song preview and turned it off when I realized the were no pictures of Otep Shamaya in it, just some album artwork and crappy music.

And last, and probably least to majority of people, djent heroes Animals As Leaders found a new home. No, it’s not a dog shelter, they signed with Sumerian Records.

Dose of Death

Why the cheesy image? Because I don’t take myself seriously, and neither should you. Welcome to my weekly feature where I’m normally drunk and/or hungover, and write some garbage about music in a way that makes me sound more knowledgeable than I really am. Or maybe I just fail at that..

The topic for this week: Death Metal. Admittedly, not my favorite genre, but one that fascinates me all the same. Death Metal is an extreme sub-genre of Metal (no, really?) that began in America (particularly Florida) in the 1980s. But I’m not fucking Wikipedia and this isn’t no history lesson, I’m just here for the music, and so should you be, so get your Death dosage after the jump. Don’t worry, an overdose won’t lead to death. Only awesomeness.

Napalm Death to appear in “Skins”

Napalm Death are branching out. First they were a band, now they’re an aspiring art/theatre collective. Okay, I’m just fucking around, but the band will appear in the new episode of British TV show “Skins” (it’s a TV show, not a skinhead convention). Here’s what Barney had to say:

“When the producers first submitted the idea, they had me down to play this Axl Rose type character,” laughed Napalm Death frontman Mark “Barney” Greenway. “I told them we haven’t got our heads up our arses and there’s no way that we’d behave that way.

Stop. Don’t you just love this guy?

I had a scene with the character Rich [Hardbeck, played by 17-year-old Alex Arnold]. He’s a metal fan and I tell him to think for himself. Unfortunately, they gave [the scene] the big snip by the sounds of it. It was a good experience, but I don’t think I could act my way out of a paper bag!”

You can read his thoughts on TV shows’ portrayal of teenagers in UK if you visit the article here. I’ve never watched “Skins,” but I do love “Misfits” (it’s a TV show, not a band). Do they have anything in common? How the fuck should I know, I’m just saying.

Interview: Mark “Barney” Greenway (Napalm Death)

Mark "Barney" Greenway

Napalm Death recently stopped their tour just so Barney could do an interview with Dose of Metal. That’s how awesome we are.

Well not really (they didn’t stop the tour, but we’re still pretty awesome), we just caught him in a good time (for us, as he was sick), and he was kind enough to answer our questions. So, make the jump, and read what The Pacifier-al-kabob-urath had to say.
