Blast From The Past: AC/DC – Back in Black (1980)

AC/DC’s ‘Back in Black’ has sold about 49 million copies worldwide to date. It’s the second best selling album of all time.

Who hasn’t spoken out about the album yet? Me, so read on after the jump.

Whole Lotta Profit

Almost 2 million people paid good money to see a middle aged man playing guitar in his shorts this year. We’re talking, of course, of metal legends and riff recyclers AC/DC, who sold almost 2,000,000 tickets since January 1st, 2010.

That’s pretty impressive, considering Metallica sold ‘only’ around 540,000.

But if you want to be disgusted, check out the full list here and see how awful taste in music was this year. Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Pink… Yeah, they all sold more tickets than Metallica. Not that Metallica is the be all, end all of great taste, but just to put things in perspective. AC/DC were the top earners, but the Top 20 is almost entirely populated by awful acts.

Girls can rock too

Call me a sexist pig, but I don’t take the WNBA seriously. There’s something about women trying to do what men do that doesn’t sit well with me. We don’t really have the MNDWA, do we? (Men’s National Dish Washing Association) — So why do they have to try and take what’s ours? Unfair.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s got nothing to do with ability, I know for a fact that women are good with balls, it’s just that we play sports and bring in the money, they feed us and clean after us. It’s a well oiled machine that needn’t be fucked with.

What does this have to do with metal? Well, not that much, it’s more of a rant I just thought I’d write, but check out these delusional young women trying to cover two of metal’s biggest legends.

AC/DSHE is the original all-girl AC/DC tribute band doing Bon Scott-era songs. These gals are committed to staying true to the heart pounding rhythms and high-energy presentation of early AC/DC.

Judas Priestess is band of hard-rocking chicks hell-bent on hitting stages across the USA and tearing up the classic headbangers of the undisputed masters of metal, Judas Priest.

Aww, isn’t that cute?? Videos of them performing live, after the jump. You just want to eat them up… And then vomit them right out.

AC/DZ to enter studio

Yes AC/DZ, not AC/DC, will enter the studio in November to record their debut album. Who are AC/DZ, you might ask. Well, AC/DZ are an AC/DC tribute band. Why is it news? Because AC/DZ includes Thrash Metal giants from Exodus, Tenet and Testament, among others.

To see who plays in the band and who’s going to appear on their debut album, read on after the jump.

Simon Wright performs with Airbourne

Comparisons to AC/DC are a bit unfair for Airbourne.  They don’t really look like AC/DC, they don’t really sound much like AC/DC, it’s not like they’re also from Australia, and it’s not like any members of AC/DC are performing with them…

Oh wait, nevermind, because apart from the fact they look and sound like AC/DC and they’re also from Australia, former AC/DC drummer Simon Wright recently joined Airbourne on stage on September 17, 2010 at the Rockstar Energy Uproar Festival in Irvine, California.

Check out the performance after the jump.
