Iommi is hard at work
Tony Iommi is working on new material with longtime friend and band member Geezer Butler…
“Been a quiet week on the writing front as we are making some changes to the control room at my home studio. The idea is to tidy the whole thing up and get a bit more space as I like to play in there when I’m recording. Should be back at the writing next week.” said Tony to Metal Hammer magazine.

However, it’s apparently for ‘the new phase of his career’ so I don’t know what that means. Is he becoming an actor?
Blast from the Past: Roadrunner United The Concert (2008)
“On December 15th, 2005, in New York City, Roadrunner Records celebrated its 25th Anniversary with the Metal concert to end all Metal concerts. 39 musicians, representing 25 different Roadrunner bands, performed 25 songs from 19 different bands’ repertoire. This unique and unprecedented aggregation of musicians was no jam session. Each song was studiously rehearsed and arranged, coming together with exuberant perfection, to produce a concert that can only be called legend.”
These are the emotive words branded upon the back of the DVD. In celebration of Roadrunner’s 30th anniversary, I have chosen to review this ambitious DVD. Read on after the jump to see what I make of it.
The main difference between Black and Death Metal is…
Black Metal and Death Metal. Two of the most prominent Extreme Metal genres (the most prominent being Thrash Metal), which both still haven’t been properly introduced to the mainstream audience.
To most non-metalheads Black and Death Metal are probably the same but there are lots of differences between these two. I’m not talking about church burnings and murders, or self-mutilating and wishing for everyone to committ suicide. I’m also not talking about the actual music, which is way different though. Just listen to Immortal and then listen to Cannibal Corpse and tell me they sound the same.
In my opinion, the main difference between Black and Death Metal is… (make the jump)
Metallica > Britney Spears
Metallica broke the record for most tickets sold on the Sydney Acer Arena. They sold 74, 244 tickets in 4 nights. The previous record was set by Britney “I love Rock N’ Roll” Spears, selling just 66,247 in four nights.
This shows that cutting your hair and doing mainstream music is good for your career, so fuck all them haters, yo.
Metallica also broke another record in Australia: Most amazing way to knock a kid out. This Australian leg of the tour seemed quite productive.

Aliases sign with Basick
Technical Math-Metallers, Aliases, a band you probably haven’t heard of (although, if you’re a regular reader of DoM, you might have seen me mention them before), have signed to Basick Records.
Formed back in April 2010, Aliases consist of ex-Sikth guitarist Pin, guitarist Leah Woodward, drummer Darren Pugh, bassist Joe Heaton and vocalist Jay Berast.
Pin made some comments, the usual PR stuff, but if you’re interested (and you should be, because I say so) check out more here.
Hopefully this also means the band will do some more promo shots, so I don’t have to keep re-using the same picture over and over again.
