Interview: Andy McKee

Andy McKee is one of my favorite guitarists. I’m not just saying that because I got to interview him, it’s true. Like a lot of people, I first noticed him when his Drifting video went viral.

What I love about him is that unlike other ‘slap guitarists,’ he doesn’t rely on that technique for all of his work. A lot of his other songs are ‘traditionally played’ and they’re just as amazing.

Two weeks ago I wrote an article about the Top 10 Ugliest Guitars and Andy‘s harpguitar (pictured above) came in second. I said it resembles a deformed penis. Andy’s fans weren’t too happy with it, as you can read in some of the comments. But what did Andy think of the article? How did he go from listening to metal to the acoustic guitar and does he like sweatpants? Make the jump to find out!

Oh, and today is Andy’s birthday so wish him a happy birthday on his Facebook page.

Weak Recap: Third time’s a charm

Another week in Metal has gone by, and your favorite Metal site, Dose of Metal, is back to give you an awesome recap of the week. Maybe you missed something, maybe you were too busy having a life and spending time with a real girlfriend to keep up to date. Luckily for you though, there are virgins like myself, that have nothing better to do than spend every waking moment of my life on this site.

So this week, I shall be interviewing Simo. He’s awesome, he’s a place in Finland (According to Wikipedia), and my interview with himself can be found after the jump.

Young kids and instruments

Ladies and gentlemen, the “Stairway To Heaven” solo. One of the best solos of all time butchered by a sloppy little kid. Now, the first seconds sound okay, you think “Damn, he’s good!” but then he already messes up the second chord. Then comes the actual solo.

I don’t want to be mean, but let’s just call it a first degree murder. Someone needs to practice his pentatonic scales a bit more. Sloppy.

My rating:

Children of Bodom like saunas

According to a recent interview with Children of Bodom keyboardist Janne Wirman, saunas have been very important with the recording of new album Relentless Reckless Forever.

In other news, saunas are also very important with the running of Dose of Metal. Oh yes, we all love a lot of sauna action together here too. Amazed? Fascinated? You should be.

Hannah Montana goes Metal

I don’t really know what the fuck this is. Am I still drunk? Have I slipped into some insane hallucination after drinking too much absinthe? Or maybe this is one of those wet dreams, because I can now legally fancy Miley Cyrus. Fuck knows.

Regardless, Metal Hammer recently posted some live video of Miley Cyrus with a backing instrumental that wouldn’t sound out of place in a Testament song. Is it good? No, it sounds like shit. That’s why I just muted it and played sleeping beauty instead.
