Anvil do jazz

Anvil

Anvil, the band better known for the documentary about them rather then their music, has started working on their new album. Here’s what the drummer, Robb Reiner had to say about the direction they’re taking:

“It’s going to be the best album we’ve ever done. We’ve invented a new genre; we’ve invented metal-jazz . . . We’ve pioneered something that I believe is going to be revolutionary. I’m a jazz drummer: the world knows that I just happen to be in a metal band. And Lips [guitarist/vocalist Steve Kudlow] listens to a lot of old-time swing jazz these days.” Lips added, “I’ve been getting into Benny Goodman and Gene Krupa, really fast swing. It’s really similar to speed metal, it’s just that it’s done with horns.” Reiner  continued, “We play this stuff live right now, and it blows people away beyond anything I’ve ever seen. We’ve innocently created something that’s never been done before.”

I thought a bunch of bands already combined elements of jazz in their music, but I guess I was wrong. We’ll hear their take on it once the album’s out. Excited? No? Have no idea who Anvil are? Didn’t think so. I do recommend watching their documentary, it’s called Anvil! The Story of Anvil.

Sepultura's new one

Sepultura

The guys from Sepultura (not too sure who plays there now) have performed a new song for the first time at a recent show, it’s a totally new one. and it’s called New One. Yeah, it’s probably named like that to appeal to the already confused average Sepultura fan (not too sure if there are many left). Check the video after the jump, click here for more details and a few new tour dates.

Joey Belladonna thinks Anthrax is a joke

Anthrax's Joey Belladonna

…No, not really, I’m just being sensationalist. He thinks they’re humorous people. Some would say it’s a thin line between the two, but not me. I’ll just say Joey looks like he hasn’t washed his hair since the first time he’s joined Anthrax. Read the entire interview here.

Billy Corgan likes being difficult

Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins thinks he’s a Playstation game. Otherwise, why would he take being ‘difficult’ as a compliment?

The concept of being difficult… if it means, ‘Hey, you don’t fit in this nice little box like the Nicklebacks and Linkin Parks of the world,’ then call me difficult; that’s a good difficult. If I’m considered difficult because I don’t wanna fit in, I’m OK with that. If I’m difficult because I’ve been difficult, I’m willing to say, ‘Yeah, I have been difficult,’ and I’ve oftentimes apologized to people.

Listen to interview after the jump.

Holy jumping Jesus Christ, what on earth is he talking about? Did he lose a bet where he had to say the word difficult a million times in a sentence? Cause it’s difficult for me to understand why it’s difficult for him to say he’s difficult without justifying being difficult while being all the more difficult to interview, in this difficult world filled with difficult problems and difficult people. I win.
