Tuesday Trivia: Metal connection #2 – Will Smith

Will Smith

Now this is a story
All about how Tuesday Trivia
Got twisted upside down
And I’d like to take a minute
Just sit right there
I’ll tell you how Dose of Metal started covering
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Yeah, my rap skillz are off the fucking hook… We are covering Will Smith for this week’s Tuesday Trivia, though. Fo’ real-real.

Pictured above is the star of this Tuesday Trivia, Will himself, with Soilwork. You know that one Swedish band that was popular for like 5 minutes back in 2005. This isn’t the proper metal connection though, but it has something to do with it (one could even say it’s connected).

The real deal is the story behind this picture (quite literally). My guess is it was taken at 2005’s Ozzfest. The same year Wicked Wisdom were playing it. And who the hell are Wicked Wisdom?

Wicked Wisdom

Wicked Wisdom are a Californian female fronted metal band, and the female in question is non other than Will’s lovely wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith. According to Jada:

“I listened to all kinds of metal as a kid. Metallica, Guns N’ Roses. I would always look at Axl Rose and say, ‘Why aren’t there any chicks out there doing this now?’ I always wanted an opportunity to get out there and rock out.”

Which I guess is a nice way of saying “I’m rich and I’m bored, and new movie offers aren’t really flying my way, so I might take some time to do shit I always wanted to do because I fucking can.” Which is honestly completely fine by me, more power to her — she could have easily payed the most popular producers to churn out a pop turd, and with a duet with her hubby she’d have (another) pile of money in no time. Instead, she did some touring with Britney Spears, the mother of all metal acts, and later on did a stint on Ozzfest, the father of the same. To make things a little less “payed up”, when doing band related business, she uses the pseudonym Jada Koren.

You can see aperformance for the band’s 2006 single Bleed All Over Me, and well, it sounds pretty much like your run-of-the-mill nu metal act. But honestly, did you expect anything better? Anyway, I didn’t promise you a good metal band, I promised you a metal band that has something to do with Will Smith. And you got two.
