The opening track of Primal Fears new CD titled New Religion assaults you with some impressive power drumming. A great way to start the album. The rest of the track is heavy laden with guitar riffs and some wild wailing screams. Primal Fear knows how to deliver the metal!
Their previous album didn't meet my expectations and so it was with some trepidation as I gave their new release a spin. I have to say New Religion is a really good album with lots of progressive influences and a much better offering than Seven Seals.
There are lots of surprises on the CD, including some very melodic Heavy Metal delivered fast and furious combined with a few melodic keyboard moments providing a great contrast. Primal Fear combine the elements of traditional heavy metal with plenty of progessive accents seamlessly in their music. The music may not be as chaotic or aggressive as with previous releases and to their credit it has a more commercial feel and clean production quality.
There are lots of times listening to this CD I can't help but hear the obvious influences of Judas Priest. Which by my standards is a good thing. If you love classic Judas Priest you will love this latest release from Primal Fear. Keep in mind the progressive influences here as well so if you can appreciate a few keyboards thrown into the mix then all the better! 8.5 STARS
